About AICUO

The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio was organized in 1969 to represent the interests of its 50 members to Ohio's lawmakers, regulators and citizens. AICUO seeks to strengthen student financial aid programs and bring about a greater understanding of the benefits and contributions of Ohio independent colleges and universities. At the same time, the association works to promote the well being of Ohio higher education as a whole, with special regard for the dual private/public nature of the responsibility to serve the educational, social, and cultural needs of the state and the nation.

Located in every region of the state, Ohio's independent institutions include research universities, traditional liberal arts colleges, comprehensive universities, single-purpose institutions, and religiously affiliated colleges.

As missions vary, so do the learning environments that our campuses offer. Some independent colleges are primarily residential; others have no dormitories. Some independent institutions were formed out of the wilderness; others were created to meet the needs of modern urban communities. Regardless of their histories and locations, independent institutions have enhanced the quality of life of the communities in which they are located and the quality of life in Ohio.
