Engineering and the Liberal Arts

Over 20 member institutions of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio currently offer degree programs related to Engineering. The number of schools offering such programs has grown noticeably in the past five years, reflecting the demand for this preparation. These institutions range from major Engineering schools which have partnered in Dual-Degree agreements with member colleges and universities, to smaller, traditional liberal arts colleges. Regardless of size or mission, the majority of AICUO engineering programs identify themselves as having firm foundations in the liberal arts.

In Spring 2014, the Deans/Chairs/Directors/Coordinators of Engineering programs at AICUO member schools were invited to come together to explore common themes, concerns and opportunities as well as the potential to convene an Ohio regional Engineering and Liberal Arts symposium, such as that initiated at Union College (NY).
